Official 2018 Oktoberfest Mug Presented
Gingerbread hearts, beer mugs, a tuba, pretzels and the giant Ferris wheel: These internationally known symbols all adorn this year’s Masskrug, or litre-mug, for Munich’s Oktoberfest.
Presenting the mug at the Oktoberfest site on Thursday, cabaret artist Martin Frank said it displayed “everything that we Bavarians love.”
According to dpa in Munich, the design for the mug and the official poster is by Dirk Lippmann, a graphic designer in far-off Osnabrueck well to the north of Bavaria.
Some 70,000 copies of the stoneware jug are to be marketed over the internet, in the Oktoberfest tents and at souvenir outlets.
A new jug has been designed every year since 1978, and an entire series is now worth more than 3,000 euros (3,500 dollars), according to Munich’s deputy mayor, Josef Schmid.
The Oktoberfest starts this year on September 22 and runs to October 7.
The mug is a collector’s item and not the same as the glass mugs served at the yearly festival.
